The Matchmaker 5K Walk+Run

In March, the Icla da Silva Foundation held two Be the Match 5K Walk/Run: Miami, FL (3/14) and San Diego, CA (3/21). This was the first Matchmaker 5K in these two cities.

The event in Miami was held on the Hollywood Beach Boardwalk with the ocean as a beautiful backdrop. Over 100 people attended this first annual event. Three marrow donors were recognized for their commitment and selfless act to be the cure when they were called on to donate. The local Bone Transplant Center, Holtz Children’s Hospital, came in full force having the largest team at the event.

The event in San Diego was held along the shoreline at Tidelands Park overlooking the Coronado Bridge and downtown San Diego. Nearly 100 people attended this first annual event. Our friends at LabCorp served as sponsors and had one of the largest teams at the Matchmaker 5K. We look forward to our continued partnership.

Thus far this year over $7,000 has been raised allowing us to add even more life-saving donors to the registry.
